The first of these annual events was held in 2002. Topics have included agricultural ethics, human sexuality, rural youth ministry, rural out-migration, rural economic development, cooperative ministry, congregational leadership, and development/redevelopment of rural congregations and ministries.

If you have ever wondered how a sermon is put together, if you've ever wanted to try your hand at writing a sermon, this upcoming event if for you! This workshop is a continuing education event for Lay Disciples/GIFTS and clergy. Those attending will hear presentations on preaching, sermon preparation, and resources. At the end of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to preach and participate in a time of feedback and critique. 2010 Theme:

Preaching? Me? Up Front?

The focus of this years Seminary on the Prairie will be on preaching and sermon preparation. If you have ever wondered how a sermon is put together, if you've ever wanted to try your hand at writing a sermon, this event is for you! Pastors will share their insights on what works and what doesn't work in the sermon writing process. Participants will also work on a scripture text and prepare an actual sermon. Sunday morning will provide opportunities to preach the sermon! If you prefer not to preach, no worry!

  • Rev. Steve Minnema, Interim Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Northern Plains PC(USA)
  • Rev. Marli Danielson, Pastor, Tri-County Ministry

2010 Schedule:

Seminary on the Prairie will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, the 30th. The day's sessions will end at 4:00, giving participants the rest of the day and evening to work on sermons. Participants are invited to preach at area churches the following morning. Pulpits within a 40 mile radius are being made available; participants will preach, with a pastor present to lead the rest of the worship service. Following the morning worship services, everyone will return to Binford for lunch and the afternoon session, which runs from 1:30 until 4:30.

Fee Information:
Tuition:
$15 if you register on or before January 15th,
$25 after January 15th

Meals: $8.00 for breakfasts
$10.00 for lunches and dinners

Lodging:
$25 for 1 night, $15 for the second night
