This is an opportunity for anyone that would like to introduce their dog (minimum of 30 pounds) to working in harness as a sled dog. The goal of this dog challenge is to introduce you and your dog to the equipment, commands, how to teach the different commands, and also to give your dog an opportunity to run in harness with a few of the PIDT sled dogs. You, the owner, will come along on this experience to see your dog work and to learn.
If it is difficult for you to travel with your dog for this event, PIDT is offering the opportunity to "adopt" a PIDT dog for the event. You would work with this dog as if your own and learn the basic information needed to try at home with your own dog. Space is limited so sign up early!
Cost includes: Eight home cooked meals, 3 nights lodging and use of retreat facility (there's a fireplace and a sauna!), use of harnesses and other equipment needed to learn, lessons in command training and equipment, lessons in canine first aid, and experience with the sled dogs.
Cost: $450 per person There is a $25 dog deposit payable to RWBC. $125 deposit will be required to hold your spot. Your dog will be housed in crates in one of the cabins at the camp. They are not allowed in the retreat center.
Please contact Helen Corlew at 701-345-8554, or by e-mail, prairieisle@gmail.com for more information and/or to register. Online registration is available at PIDT website: www.prairieisledogtrekking.com.
