Thank You, Friends!
Friends of Red Willow Appreciation Dinner
The Friends of Red Willow Appreciation Dinner was held Thursday, July 31 at the Ofstedal Retreat Center. This annual event affords us the opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to the many congregations and individuals who give of their time, talent and resources to help improve the camp and enhance the ministry.
The Master of Ceremonies was Richard Solberg of Fargo, who is the Chairman of the Friends of Red Willow. The guest speaker was Bishop Bill Rindy, newly elected to the Eastern North Dakota Synod of the ELCA. Pastor Bill was also on staff at Red Willow, and his words of encouragement were much appreciated.
We were also pleased to have Sally and Steve Simonson of Lakota as our musicians for the evening. Their wonderful vocals and instrumental accompaniment were well received.
Red Willow Ministries awarded ten special plaques to some very special churches, businesses and individuals:
- Bill & Wanda Scoville from LaMoure Implement for the donation of a John Deere lawn mower.
- Pete & Cathy Silbernagel for donating new windows for the retreat center gym.
- Carrington Conference ELCA for raising funds and providing workers for the new traverse climbing wall in the gym.
- Trinity Lutheran of Lisbon for adopting Joshua Cabin.
- Zion Lutheran of Grand Rapids for adopting Esther Cabin.
- Sheyenne-Oberon Area Ministry for adopting Ruth Cabin.
- Our Savior’s Lutheran of Valley City for adopting Mark Cabin.
- The Satrom Family for adopting Phoebe Cabin.
- LeRoy Throlson for his volunteer work.
- Jamestown Implement for donating the use of a John Deere Gator for the summer.
Certificates of Appreciation were given out to:
- Erv Inniger
- Debbie Pyle
- David and Pam Adrian
- Bob Delfs
- Gary Delfs
- Dr. Rohini Becherl
- Halvorson-Boote Auction Service
- Pastor Emily Nesdahl
- Sandi Ley
- Pastor Bob and Olive Weber
- Pat and Jim Broten
- Abbi Johnson, Program Director, was recognized for her 10 years of service to Red Willow Bible Camp.
New Dining Tables
We started raising money for new tables during the quilt auction last year. A final gift from Pat and Jim Broten and local banks and businesses completed the fund drive this summer and the tables are in use.
We purchased 12-72” round tables and 4-60” round tables. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped us meet this goal.

Upcoming at Camp
Quilt Auction Ahead!
August 21, 2008 - 5:30 pm
RSVP Due by August 15, 2008
September 6, 2008
Every summer we host an appreciation dinner for our faithful and generous supporters. Put August 21 on your schedule, and come out for a dinner, speaker, and music. You will also get the first peak at the quilts and other items donated to the September 6th Quilt Auction.
The prized raffle quilt is done and raffle tickets are now available. Each WELCA group in the Eastern North Dakota Synod received a poster and tickets in June. Tickets are also available by contacting any board member or the camp office. All proceeds from the raffle and the quilt auction go directly to support the camps' ministry.
View the latest quilts in our photo album and visit our website for more information on the quilt auction.

"Finishing Strong & Dying Well"
Friday, Sept. 26th
10:00 am to 2:35 pm
If you haven't noticed it, older age is sneaking up on us. We are aware that the grip is not as firm as we might ike. The reading light seems a little dimmer, and the print seems smaller. We take the stairs with a little more caution than in years past. Nothing, usually is grossly different, but incrementally, almost unnoticed, the body wears down. It is a temptation to slowly let things go and look back at the coups accomplished and the roads not taken.
Darrel Gilbertson might have chosen such a path ten years ago when given "two years to live" by his doctor. Rather than giving in and giving up, he undertook to share his experience and life with others. The result is a seminar to help us "Finish Strong & Die Well" by initiating and implementing a Plan for Life 2-the shift from success to significance.
Darrel and his wife Barbara have taught the course nationally for six years. Red Willow Ministries have invited them to here to share their experiences as they moved into Plan for Life II. It is not a lecture series, but a time of sharing and mentoring in the next phase of living.
Darrel is also the co-author of the book soon to be released by Leafwood Publishing entitled Exit Stage Right.
The course is presented in four-one hour segments and includes lunch at the Ofstedal Retreat Center at Red Willow Bible Camp. The workshop is open to adults over 50 years old who would like to set or readjust their journey and Plan for Life 2.
The cost per couple is $25 (includes meal) or $15 for a single. Contact our office to register or for more information.
