Summer Staff Update
Staff Training
Staff training started on May 24, and all but four staff members are already at the camp learning new campfire songs, delving into the summer Bible Studies, roller skating and more than you can imagine!
We are so thankful for this wonderful mix of high school students, college students and some 'seasoned' staff! Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we have training all weekend, all next week, and then send these young people off to churches to bring the good news for Vacation Bible School.
Susan Olson, Camp Nurse
Welcome to our summer staff nurse. Susan Olson, LPN is back for her second summer serving the staff and campers at Red Willow. Sue brings her great nursing skills, compassion and fun loving personality to the camp for registrations, and to monitor camper care throughout the week. Welcome back Sue!
Camp Chapel News
Chapel Cleaning Day
This Saturday!
June 5, 2010
An all day cleaning blitz!
If you can spend one hour or the whole day....please come to the camp to help us get the 60 year old chapel ready for the summer (including summer and fall weddings!).
Stained Glass Windows Installed
Three stained glass panels were installed on May 22nd by Dave and JoAnn Heisler, Thresa Pfeifer, Ken Gilbertson and Dennis Goetz. The stained glass cross is stunningly beautiful, and will be the centerpiece of worship in the chapel for years to come.
Walk to the Camp Update
The 2010 Walk to the Camp took place May 10, a windy and wet spring Monday. Three intrepid hikers left Carrington at about 5 am and headed east with their sights set on reaching Red Willow Bible Camp by nightfall. The walkers, Pastor Bruce Vold, Pastor Steve Berntson and Denny Goetz, each found their own way to the camp and each raised $6,577 for our ministry.
Thanks go out to Pastor Steve, Pastor Bruce, Denny Goetz, and friends who walked part of the way with them: Bruce's son Matthew and RWM site manager Ken Gilbertson.
Walk with us next year!
The hikers have already started planning for the 2011 Walk to the Camp, and hope to expand the scope to include camp supporters willing to 'Hike, Bike, Paddle or Crawl' to the camp to raise awareness and funds.
Participants can chose the distance, the method of travel and converge on the camp the same day for a celebration and a hearty meal.
Start organizing your team now and watch for information.
What is Camp Accreditation?
You may have noticed our ACA symbol on our web site and in our mailings: What does that mean to you or your camper?
Red Willow Ministries has chosen to seek accreditation by the American Camping Association. The first year we were accredited was 2002, and we have successfully met their standards in 2005 and 2008. Our next site visit will be next summer, and we are continually working to meet and exceed their standards for our site, food, health, program and administration.
If you would like to know more about what this all means, give one of the directors a call.
